"Targeted motions" are patterns of movement that we are working towards in the affected arm. You can think of these motions as movements your body naturally does when you tell it to, such as lifting your hand above your head. For children with hemiparesis, we can expect not all of these movements to come easily to at least one side of their body. Working towards these "targeted motions" in therapy and at home can help create neural pathways in the brain that make the movement patterns more natural than they may have been before.
